Georgetown Real Estate Homes for Sale
Georgetown: Would a town by any other name sound as quaintly charming? The Boston Traveler calls Georgetown “one of the prettiest and pleasantest of all New England towns,” and for good reason.
Georgetown is one of Boston’s northernmost suburbs, and is only a 40 minute drive from the metropolis. The town is nicely situated between major routes such as 95 and 495 for easy access to surrounding areas.
The city limits of Georgetown encompass meadowlands and wooded areas. The surrounding area is sprinkled with lakes and ponds, making the city an appropriate part of a very lush and lovely setting. Fishing is a very popular recreational activity here. There are several hiking and walking trails that weave around the various ponds and wildlife preservation.
The city of Georgetown is quiet and mostly residential, but still close enough to stores and establishments to be considered a social community. Georgetown keeps its own police department, and has two fire stations. It also houses a small post office, library, and highway department. No building is over 10 stories and much of the architecture in the city is original. Some Georgetown MA real estate listings and structures are over 300 years old. Unlike surrounding towns, Georgetown has its own school district. There are 3 public schools in the area which instruct local children between Pre-kindergarten and 12th grade. Parents and adults can easily find camaraderie at the local golf course, country club, or yoga studios. Civil participation is also encouraged, as the local government runs the community through an open town meetings. Many residents of Georgetown believe that “what has made Georgetown special is the spirit of community evidenced by the many volunteers who come forward when a project is in need of assistance. It is this spirit that retains the feel of a small town and is its attraction.” *
Georgetown commerce offers several choices for cuisine to its residents. Downtown Georgetown is home to pizza parlors, find dining establishments, fast food restaurants, and a marketplace for every day grocery shopping. There is also a bridal shoppe that attracts many brides-to-be from the surrounding areas. The city has been a host to many manufacturing and industrial companies since the 1800s. What had been a city of mostly mills and farming was changed by the entrance of a shoe peg factory. Though many of the companies which helped Georgetown to progress into the modern period no longer exist, the town still has many artifacts and architectural edifices which remind its residents of a more colonial time.
You will not be the first or the last person to find that Georgetown MA real estate is specially suited for you and your needs. Georgetown was the home of the famous American novelist John Updike for six years, and his jogs through the town were to become the inspiration for one of his novels.
So if you feel like you, too, are running around trying to find a suitable place for yourself and your family, consider looking into Georgetown MA real estate possibilities. You will be surprised at how easy it is to call Georgetown “home.”
